Originaire du Nord de l’Ontario, Rachel Barber est une auteure-compositrice-interprète guidée par l’atmosphère rurale et de la réalité franco-ontarienne de la région de North Bay. Accompagnée de sa guitare acoustique, elle dévoile sa maturité sous forme de mélodies à la saveur de folk, pop et country. Son premier EP, qui est sorti en automne 2016, offre un goût de son univers inspiré d’un mélange de voyages réels et imaginaires.

 

Née en 1999, Rachel a grandi influencée par la musique qu'écoutait ses parents, ses amis et son église. Ces influences ont donné à cette jeune auteure-compositrice-interprète de North Bay un son unique, tiré des styles pop, folk et country. À 10 ans, elle a écrit sa première chanson en français et c'est à ce moment qu'elle a réalisé son amour pour la composition musicale. Accompagnée de sa guitare, elle a su se rendre aux finales de La Brunante en 2014 et en 2016, elle a participé au Canadian Songwriter Challenge à Sudbury en 2016 et elle a fait partie du projet iStudio21 en 2016 ainsi qu’en 2017. Encouragée par son succès, Rachel s'est rendue au studio d'enregistrement pour enregistrer son premier EP éponyme qui a été lancé en automne 2016. L’année 2017 a amenée plusieurs opportunités d’avancement de carrière, notamment comme lauréate du prix Coup de cœur « Meilleure artiste solo » à la 14e édition du festival Quand ça nous chante et en tant que participante à la 4e saison de Rond Point. Rachel a occupé le premier poste jeunesse au sein du conseil d'administration de l'Association des professionnels de la chanson et de la musique (APCM). En octobre 2017, elle a participé au Developping Artist Program à la conférence de Folk Music Ontario.

Born in 1999, Rachel grew up influenced by the music that her parents, friends and church listened to. These influences gave this young North Bay singer-songwriter a unique sound with hints of folk, pop and country. When she was only 10 years old, she wrote her first song in French and it was at that moment that she fell in love with musical composition. Accompanied by her guitar, she made her way to the finals of La Brunante in 2014 and in 2016, she participated in the Canadian Songwriter Challenge in Sudbury in 2016 and she was part of the iStudio21 project in 2016. Encouraged by her success, Rachel recorded her first self-titled EP which was officially released the fall of 2016. The year of 2017 brought with it several career advancement opportunities, notably by winning the Coup de coeur "Meilleure artiste solo" award at the 14th edition of Quand ça nous chante and by being selected to be a participant in the 4th season of Rond Point, Rachel was the first high school student to seat on the board of directors of l'Association des professionnels de la chanson et de la musique (APCM). In October 2017, she participated in the Developping Artist Program at the Folk Music Ontario conference.
